8 Must Watch Lesbian Holiday Movies with Happy Endings

Holidays Lesbian Movies & TV

One of our favorite holiday traditions is cozying up in our living room, snuggling underneath a blanket with a glass of mulled wine and yummy s'mores while watching a lesbian holiday movie.

But if you’re familiar with the lesbian movie landscape, then you’ll know that there aren’t too many great lesbian holiday movies to choose from, but thankfully, there are still a handful of heartwarming and well-made ones that we can all enjoy.

Here’s our list of must-watch lesbian holiday movies this season. Bonus: they all feature happy endings! 🌈

1. Happiest Season

Happiest Season Best Lesbian Holiday Movies

I’m a sucker for rom coms and there can never be too many cute lesbian rom-coms. The Happiest Season is the latest lesbian holiday movie released on this list. The storyline of the movie is pretty straightforward–a young woman plans to propose to her girlfriend at her family's annual holiday party but discovers that her partner hasn't come out to her conservative parents–but lesbian goddess, Kristen Stewart, stars in it. So there you go.

2. Lez Bomb

Lez Bomb has all of the classic rom-com heartwarming cheesiness that you could want in a lesbian movie. It’s a comedy of errors featuring a great cast and a happy ending! The premise of the movie is that a closeted woman brings her girlfriend home for Thanksgiving, only to have her coming-out efforts thwarted by a slew of unexpected events.

3. Carol

Carol Best Lesbian Holiday Movies

This is one of our favorite lesbian movies of all time and we could watch Carol any day of the year (in fact, we’ve probably watched it at least 20 times now and counting…), but the actual movie plot does take place over the Christmas holidays. The story centers around the beautiful relationship that develops between Therese (Rooney Mara) and Carol (Cate Blanchett) in 1950s New York.

4. Season of Love

Season of Love Best Lesbian Holiday Movies

Season of Love is like the cheesier, gay version of Love Actually. The best part is that it features our fan favorite, queer actress Dominique Provost-Chalkley, who also plays Waverly Earp from Wynonna Earp and has one of the cutest lesbian ships ever (#Wayhaught) on TV with Officer Nicole Haught. Anyways, I digress. Season of Love is lighthearted indie rom com featuring a diverse cast of women and their love lives during Christmas and New Years.

5. Imagine Me & You

Imagine Me & You Lesbian Holiday Movie

This isn’t truly a Christmas/holiday movie, but it takes place over the fall/winter and gives you all the holiday season feels. It’s also one of the first truly well-done lesbian rom coms ever made and is on every lesbian’s must-watch list. It’s a lighthearted movie with a happy ending and features both Lena Headey (Cersei from Game of Thrones) and Piper Perabo (also in the lesbian movie, Lost & Delirious). Both are gorgeous and have so much chemistry on screen that you'll just fall in love with them both.

6. City of Trees

City of Trees is an indie film about a young woman who returns to her hometown for the holidays after many years and falls for an old acquaintance. While not exactly an Oscar-level movie–the storyline and dialogue feature some gaps and occasional cringyness–it’s still a worthwhile film to watch and of course, has a happy ending.

7. Let it Snow

Let it Snow is a feel-good holiday movie that features different storylines about a group of teens on Christmas Eve who discover their friendships and love lives colliding. It’s like a fresher, younger, and more modern take of Love Actually that also showcases an adorable lesbian coming-of-age love story.

8. What's Cooking

What’s Cooking is an older lesbian holiday movie that has all of the drama and laughter of a crazy family holiday Thanksgiving. While there are many different characters and storylines happening in the movie similar to Lez Bomb, the lesbian storyline centers around Rachel and her partner Carla, who she brings home for the holidays. Rachel struggles to get her parents to come to terms with her sexuality, relationship, and big announcement that she makes. But rest assured, there is a happy ending!
